Monuments
Despite the great urban development in recent decades, Torremolinos has managed to preserve the ambience of the fishermen's districts such as El Calvario, El Bajondillo and La Carihuela. In the historical part of the city stands the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen as well as beautiful examples of noble architecture such as the Casa de los Navajas, built in the 19th century. However, the town's most emblematic feature is its eponymous tower "Torre Molinos", which used to be a fortified tower. Meanwhile, in the area known as Cortijo del Tajo, important archaeological sites from the Neolithic period, as well as from the pre-Roman and Roman eras, have been discovered.
Cuisine, festivals and nearby towns
Torremolinos' cuisine mainly consists of seafood. Its most emblematic dish is fried fish or "pescaito" but there are other ways to cook fish recipes such as grilled, salted etc. The Málaga Designation of Origin is known for the excellent quality of its wines, especially sweet wine. Featuring prominently on Torremolinos' calendar are The Fair and the festival of its patron saint, San Miguel, which are celebrated between the end of September and the beginning of October. A week before, the popular Pilgrimage of San Miguel takes place. In Carihuela, the Feria del Carmen is celebrated every July 16th where you can see the Procession of the Virgin. Next to Torremolinos, you can visit other touristic towns in Malaga, such as Benalmádena and Fuengirola. You can also visit typical Andalusian mountain villages like Mijas or Alhaurín el Grande. Located 12 kilometres from Torremolinos is the capital of Málaga, an important heritage city that houses the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro Castle, as well as a wide range of leisure activities.
Beaches
El Bajondillo, La Carihuela, Los Alamos and Playamar are some of the magnificent beaches that adorn this coast. Located on the same coast are hotel complexes, residential areas as well as a Palace of Congress where important international meetings are held. There are a number of leisure options offered by Torremolinos: from going swimming on the beach and enjoying the sun almost all year round to practicing all kinds of sports such as golf or trying the typical food in any of the restaurants in town.
